Job Description

Diversified Yacht Services, Inc. is seeking a skilled Marina Yard Worker/Laborer to perform various tasks in the boatyard, including prepping vessel bottoms for paint jobs, assisting with cosmetic detailing, and other duties as outlined below.

A qualified Marina Yard Worker will be a self-starter and a dedicated worker knowledgeable in the Marine and Boating Industry.

Core Responsibilities:
The person should be flexible to fulfill the various tasks in the boat yard including, but not limited to the following:
  • Pressure washing, media blasting, scraping, and sanding vessel bottoms and running gear.
  • Applying bottom and running gear paint.
  • Washing and drying customer’s vessels, including polishing glass and waxing by hand or with an electric polisher.
  • Cleaning and detailing vessel interiors, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, steam-cleaning carpets and upholstery, and cleaning heads, galleys, and engine rooms.
  • Assisting with travel lift and forklift operations.
  • Performing building maintenance as assigned.
Applicant Requirements:
  • One year of marina yard work experience preferred, including skills such as working with underwater/running gear, topside and/or bottom paint, fiberglass and/or gelcoat, varnishing, and woodworking.
  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • One year of hands-on physical work experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record. An unsatisfactory driving record would contain infractions worse than minor traffic violations.
  • Permanent authorization to work in the USA for any employer (no visa sponsorships available).
The following experience and skills will make you a stronger candidate:
  • Knowledge of rigging and de-rigging vessels and proper allocation and inventory of parts.
  • Ability to operate and secure a vessel.

Performance Factors:

This person should be able to work unsupervised, maintain a professional appearance, and be a team player. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of detailing products appropriate for use on boats and the ability to identify and obtain these products through the Parts Department. Candidates should possess strong verbal communication skills to work effectively with fellow employees, the Parts Department, management, and occasionally customers. It is essential to communicate effectively in English (both written and verbal) to report investigation results and make recommendations for successful repairs.
 
To perform the daily work of a Boatyard Worker, you must meet certain physical requirements:
  • Ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
  • Prolonged standing.
  • Ability to turn head and body from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Lift/push/pull a battery weighing 59 pounds without assistance (on an occasional basis).
  • Lift and hold overhead 14 lbs on a frequent basis to maneuver a buffer.
  • Ability to climb stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps safely.
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps)
  • Work at heights above 12 feet, while working from a ladder, scaffolding, and/or lifts to work on the top part of the vessel.
  • Work on ladders, scaffolding, and on top of the vessels while hauled out.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.
  • Maintain good balance on uneven surfaces.
  • Sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment, and the ability to grip and maneuver an electric polisher.
  • Ability to reach above the head, and have repetitive motion in a circular, up and down, back and forth, and side to side motion with upper extremities to work electric sanders and polishers.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety lines, floatation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.
  • Withstand cold and hot temperatures and work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to work in an environment where you are occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Work in confined spaces and hard-to-reach areas for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
  • Work in an environment where the noise level is usually loud.
  • Ability to fully extend the arm or arms while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side, and reaching down with tools and/or equipment.
  • Perceive attributes of objects/materials such as size, shape, temperature, and texture.
  • Observe all safety signs, notices, procedures, and attend safety meetings.
  • It's required to wear close-toe shoes, safety glasses, and PPE in the entire service facility, when walking outside the administration offices.

Salary range:

The hourly pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00 plus full benefits. The compensation will be determined depending on factors including, but not limited to, experience and performance.
